The world is a reflection of what we are inside. If we want the world or a small part of our world (family relationships, work environment) to be different, we have to look at ourselves and find out how we can change and therefore change that around us. In order to change, it helps to understand what we are. We need to know our self. By getting to know your self, you start the transformation into motion. Freedom, clarity, honesty, simplicity, and understanding are the flowers of transformation. Meditation is one way to discover oneself. Free form writing is another.
Remember that transformation does take action from us to
complete. That action can be the formulation of a new belief or a
concentrated effort to choose to change the way we act or think. Transformation
can be quick or take several months or years to accomplish. It is all up
to you! There is no judgment as to the path of transformation you
take. The point is to begin taking steps on the road of change.
SAYING:
The transformation of the
world is brought about by the transformation of oneself, because the
self is the product and a part of the total process of human existence.
To transform oneself, self-knowledge is essential, without knowing
yourself there cannot be transformation.
J. Krishnamurti
EXERCISE:
I have found the following questions very helpful in beginning to understand oneself. Take your time in answering them. Break it up into smaller pieces if doing it all at once is difficult. When you consider these questions, write down all that occurs to you. Do not censor it or worry about it being good, bad, right, or wrong. Just let it flow. Take as much space on a page (or two) as you need.
1. What do I really want for myself and my life? (More rest? More time to yourself or with your family? A new car or home?)
2. What "should" I want? Look over your answers to question #1 and notice how many of the answers are based on what you're "supposed" to want. Just notice and write down everything that comes to you.
3. What are my "soul" priorities? These are what you really, really want. The ones you often hide from others or that you feel are too good to be possible.
4. What are my "head" priorities? These are ones you think about all the time.
5. Are your desires really "your" desires or are they meant to please someone else? Review what you've written so far and notice how much of what you want is really for others. Note them down.
6. What really matters to me at this time in my life?
7. What needs my attention? Just let it flow out.
8. What am I afraid of?
9. What am I afraid of losing?
10. What am I afraid of gaining?
11. What do I need to do right now with what I've learned about myself?
MEDITATION:
In your quiet time this week, ask the Ultimate Being to show you the top two things you need to change about yourself in the next year. Ask to be shown what steps you need to take in order to do so. Don't forget to to ask that the people, books, and anything else you may need be provided to help you during the transformation. Go deeper into your meditation and see, feel, and experience what your life will be like after you have stepped through the changes. Hold onto this image and let it continue to motivate you throughout the year.
When you ask the Ultimate Being for what you want, the two words to use are "need" or "desire". All words have a frequency of energy associated with them. "Need" and "desire" are a higher frequency than "ask" or "want".
