In order to let go, we need to know more about the lower self. Let's talk little more about what it is. It is a crafty part of our human experience that was needed at the very early part of our existence in order to survive. But along with us, it has mutated and adapted. Now it is at battle with our higher self (our individual truth, our soul). On a higher level, you know the choices you need to make and the direction you desire in life to make you happy and successful. Yet, the lower self tries to make us believe otherwise by using fear, doubt, and other lower emotions and thoughts to prevent us from moving in our higher purpose direction.
So what can we do about it? A lot. It is possible to overcome this part of ourselves. It will never completely disappear until you die and become entirely spirit again, but you can see through its illusions and choose to move towards a higher path. In time, you can become your own master instead of allowing yourself to be mastered by the lower self.
Do you ever feel uneasy about changing your life or parts of it? Deep down you want to change the way things are going, but are afraid or uncomfortable about the future or what reactions people will have? Guess what, it is not really you who feels shaky or uneasy about sudden or planned shifts in your life. It is what you think you are (or should I say, what your lower self wants you to think you are). Your lower self feels threatened it will lose control over your life, over you! So, it will try to create feelings and/or circumstances that bring on lower emotions (remember, those are fear, doubt, low self confidence, resentment, etc). Most of us get stuck at this point. The key to remember is this fear or doubt is not you, it is an illusion. If you are willing to walk through the illusion, you will create the life you are dreaming of while also conquering the self and lower emotions that hold you back.
I know the emotions feel real. But they are not who you are. Have you ever experienced a situation where once you got through a tough spot, you realized it wasn't as big of a deal as you thought or your worst nightmare didn't actually happen, it was just your imagination? This is the lower self in action. It makes mountains out of mole hills, so to speak.
Most often, the self-limiting beliefs start in our thoughts. Our thoughts then travel to our emotional body and then to the physical body and outward. This week, we are going to start with the thoughts. This is the next step in starting to let go - monitoring your thoughts. Yes, it takes practice to monitor your thoughts; don't worry if you don't catch yourself every time or each day. You will reach a point where it will begin to become automatic.
At the beginning there were often days I would forget to monitor my own and then spirit (God) would pop in and remind me with a quick thought - "oh, my gosh, I've been forgetting to monitor my thoughts." So, I'd work at it again.
SAYING:
To remain calm, we need only listen for and let go of the anxious inner voices
---unknown
EXERCISE:
As you become aware that you are thinking about something negative, frightening, emotional, or becoming angry or frustrated, STOP. Say "Stop" internally or out loud. Then ASK, "Where is this coming from? My lower or higher self?" WAIT & LISTEN for the answer. It will come immediately.
Once you know it is coming from the lower self, you may automatically let that thought go or if you want, you can say something like, "I let this go, it is not real" or "This is not me, I let go of this illusion." You can create your own saying that feels right to you.
